You can't ask for money. Gifts are just that, gifts. Chosen by the giver, not reciever. I suppose you could have a wedding website with a list of places you are registered and put a note on it that you're planning on buying a home etc. that might make it click w/people that cash would be the most appreciated gift. But you can NEVER put it on your invite.

Someone found this for me.. I'm not sure where.. If you were thinking of getting us a gift, a gift of cash toward our house or honeymoon would really make our day. However if you wish not to surprise us in your own special way. The way I see it is people always ask what you want.. At least for me they did.. So I figured why not tell them. Just remember you can't please everyone. You don't have to be rude with anything but say what you want in a nice way!

You really can't...but if someone asks what you want, you could tell them that you are saving up for a house or whatever. You could tell your parents and in-laws, too, so that they could tell people IF they inquire.

Unfortuna tely, there is no tactful way to say this. It is very poor etiquette to reference money on an invitation. The best way to let people know you want the cash is to employ a few close friends or family members to spread the word. Also, lots of stores will give cash back if you return the item or will give you gift cards. You can turn around and resell the gift cards (obviously you will get less than the face value & it's a bit of a hassle). The best place to sell them would be ebay. I've seen people pay within a dollar of the face value of the gift card. This is probably not the best behavior but it still beats asking for cash.

I think it is okay for you to ask for money on a wedding invitation if your circumstance is one where receiving physical gifts is not a good option such as after you get married you will be migrating and so carrying lots of wedding presents is not an option, or if you are not moving into your own home and you won't have place for new presents. However, its not a very easy thing to do and you will have to try and be tactful about it. Some people might be offended and think oh my gosh what is wrong with these people.. asking for money! But it is something that is being done more and more nowadays.

You can use wording like "If you were thinking of giving a gift, to help us on our way,
We will be migrating so a gift of cash, would really make our day,
However, if you prefer to purchase a gift, feel free to surprise us in your own way!"

It's not easy! Good luck!
